I heard that as of recently there is a herbicide called "Maverick" available on the market. It is suppose to "knock back" the Johnson grass and not hurt the coastal bermuda. Do you know anything about this herbicide?

The label doesn't list Johnson Grass and it doesn't seem to be for hay. I have to be careful with any hay I buy because there are a lot of idiots spraying their hay fields with MSMA to get rid of Johnson Grass. I hope this doesn't give them something else to spray.

Use a ropewick applicator and a Roundup/water solution. You just wipe it across the top of the John grass

I found some more information about the Herbicide called "MAVERICK" that is used in Hayfields to kill Johnson Grass. The following was copy and pasted straight from the Texas Department of Agriculture website. ....
-----------------------------------
Pesticide Section 18 Exemption Maverick
EPA Approval Notice to use of sulfosulfuron (Maverick Herbicide) in Bermuda grass pastures and hayfields to control johnsongrass

Effective Date: July 26, 2006
Expiration Date: June 30, 2007
EPA Reg. No. 524-500
EPA File Symbol: 06-TX-25

EPA amended the original specific exemption (on Aug. 14) to extend the expiration date to June 30, 2007. All other tems and conditions of theoriginal authorization still apply.

The Texas Department of Agriculture reports the EPA approval of a specific exemption under the provisions of Section 18 of the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act, as amended, for the use of sulfosulfuron in Bermuda grass pastures and hayfields to control johnsongrass (sorghum halepense).

USE DIRECTIONS
Johnsongrass: For control or suppression of johnsongrass, apply MAVERICK herbicide at a rate of 1.33 ounces of product per acre (0.062 lb ai /a) post emergence when the johnsongrass is between 24-36 inches tall.

Pastures and Bermuda grass hay meadows infested with johnsongrass.

Method of Application:
Post emergence broadcast by ground equipment

Rate of Application (amount ai. and product)
MAVERICK may be applied at a maximum rate of 1.33 oz. product (0.062 lbs. ai) per acre. The minimum re-treatment interval is 40 days.

2 applications (not to exceed 2.66 ounces of product per acre per year)

Total Acreage to be treated:
A maximum of 10 million (10,000,000) acres in Texas may be treated under this specific exemption.
------------------------------------
I sprayed Maverick between my second and third cut this year. I'm here to tell you ...."It works"! It wiped out the Johnson grass and didn't hurt the Coastal at all!
