I am looking to develop about 40 acres into hay production/grazing. From an economics stand point it seems that planting one of the seed mixes containing Giant might be the way to go. However, I have seen some info inferring that Giant eventually gets dominated out by the other varieties in the mix. Is this true? Will the Giant disappear after a few years? On the other hand I read that it spreads well by rhizomes. What is the real truth? I would appreciate hearing from anyone with experience with Giant.

I planted Sungrazer Plus in March 07 and am happy with the results. Sungrazer Plus is a 3 way mix of Giant (i.e. NK37) CD90160, and KF194. I think the Giant was all still hulled. I think the theory of any mix using Giant is to provide a good 1st and 2nd year stand while the other variates develop to higher production levels. The soil I planted in was blackland prarie
I'd have to find the link, but the A&M forage test stations publish data on the productivity of various grasses and as I remember giant productivity does fall off after a few years which aid in it being crowded out.
