We are trying to rid our Coastal hay field of Bahia. Can we mix Cimmaron with our nitrogen and spray the field after this cutting? Does Cimmarron need to the sprayed during the spring only? thanks

Answered by Dr. Larry Redmon, State Forage Specialist, TAMU:Cimarron will not have the desired effect on the bahiagrass if applied after the cutting; there is not enough leaf surface left to translocate the maximum amount of herbicide. The bahiagrass should be 6-8" tall before applying the Cimarron. Fortunately, there are no haying restrictions with Cimarron. If growing conditions are good, Cimarron may be applied during summer. This is rarely the case, but this year has been a pretty good year for herbicide applications even to this date.

I have recently bought 8 acres in smith county that was at one time a costal hay field and bahai grass has taken over 75 percent of it. I have already sprayed the bahai grass and got a good kill on it. Is the coastal still there or will I need to start over with sprigs? thanks
