Field Surveys

Field surveys are a major component of the Livestock Early Warning System program being implemented in Afghanistan. The first surveys were conducted in 2007 and new surveys are undertaken each year as this program becomes institutionalized in the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock, Department of Rangelands. Sites that were previously surveyed are also monitored year to year in an effort to improve PHYGROW modeling results.

The data presented here is part of what is collected each field season. In its entirety, it is intended to support herders and government and non-government organizations, in terms of decision-making, to reduce and address risks in an uncertain environment. Individual field survey reports are available by clicking here; Afghanistan's GLEWS forage forecasts are available by clicking here.
