What is Phygrow?

PHYGROW is a hydrologic based plant growth simulation model. PHYGROW is intended to produce available forage production for a site, representing complex plant communities and complex animal communities selectively grazing and reflecting stocking/movement rules. PHYGROW uses soil characteristics, plant community characteristics, grazing practices, and weather data for a particular location to predict the forage production and associated water balance. The PHYGROW system is intended to be a general ecosystem model similar in function to the work done by The Dynamic, Spatial, Ecological Modeling Team in their Sage Grouse Model developed for the US Army's Yakima Training Center. Many of the growth parameters, hydrology are from the WEPP and SPUR models developed by USDA-ARS and USDA-NRCS. Other feathers of the model were created by the technical program in the Ranching Systems Group at Texas A&M University.
